07/02/2010 - (A) Wychall Wanderers 6-3
A return fixture from the last game and Alvechurch battled hard to put themselves 1-3 up, only for the long ball game of Wychall to scupper the Lions hopes.
Well another great battling performance from the lads. Things look set to be bad when Wychall scored a goal after 5 minutes. But almost straight from the kick off, the Lions were back level. A long ball was heading towards the Wychall keeper but he tried to dibble it into his area. Alex who had run 30 yards to get there harrried the ball off him and slotted home to put us level- a fine goal. James played the majority of the first half and was getting involved and working hard to get the ball. Jack and Shayne were the power house in the middle of the park. Harry T in goal had pulled off some great saves and twice bravely dived in to get the ball away. Aidan and AJ were solid as ever at the back. Alvechurch looked to push on and the ball came to Shayne on the Half way line. Off he went on a typical mazey run, then 20 yards from goal; a power bolt over the keepers head to send us 1-2 up. Could it get any better? Oh yes, again Shayne on a run down the right wing, a great cross and Alex on the end of it to slot home for his second of the day!! Alvechurch go wild and we look on track for the first win of the season. Josh came on for James and Harry B also made a first half appearance. Jack was still proving valuable in the middle of the park. On the run up to half time the boys relaxed and conceded two frustrating goals and the score was back to parity.
HT
The second half brought us down from the heights as Wychall proved to be too good on the break and their long ball game would have irritated Arsene Wenger. We couldn't handle the two up front tactics and despite some great battling in midfield by Jack and some more great runs from Shayne we had no answer and slipped to 6-3. Disappointment in the end but some great positives, Shayne and Jack were magnificent in the middle Aidan and AJ great at the back and Alex finding his shooting boots (or was it the new greeen laces??).
Great game lads!! Well played and we scored 3 magnificent goals.
Adrian and James
MMoM: Alex (2 goals)
SMoM: Jack and Shayne (They both worked their socks off)
24/01/2010 - (H) Wychall Wanderers 0-4
Happy New Year to all – Well Christmas had taken its toll on the guys and a sluggish start left us 4 down at half time. But a battling performance in the second kept the score to 0-4.
The guys really deserved more out of this game and if we had played the whole game the way we played the second half we would have won our first points of the campaign. As it was the Christmas pies were still having an affect.. We weren’t closing down the ball and that gave Wychall space to open up the defence and we were 4 down. Half time
A change of Goalie saw Harry B make his first appearance between the sticks. AJ and Aidan had played well in the first half but they really excelled in the second. Wychall hardly had a shot in the second half and they had the slope advantage. With Jack coming out of goal this gave us Jack and Shane across the middle with Tom and Josh up the wings. Granty up front was working hard to get past the solid Wychall defence. Shots from AJ and Shayne set the tone for the half and we looked great both on the break and in defence. Tom and Alex came on and both were getting involved looking to get a break through.
James came on for the last couple of minutes and a final Lions attack saw Alex narrowly miss a chance after some flowing football.
A clichéd game of two halves, but it was. I am proud of the lads for that second half performance and if they carry on like that for the rest of the season it is all we can ask. We really deserved a goal in the second half and were unlucky to come away with nothing
Great game lads!!
Adrian and James
MMoM: Aidan (Great defence and battling)
SMoM: AJ and Shayne (2 because of that second half performance)
08/11 - (H) AG Kings 0-6
A fantastic performance from the team and the result looked extremely harsh. A cold morning saw the Lions hold the Kings 0-0 to half time. But the slope and a couple of goals straight after the break saw the Kings run away with it.
What a first half from the guys!! Everyone pulled their weight and on a different day we would have been in front. Shayne, Granty, Jack and AJ all worked their socks off to nullify the opposition and provide the threat going forward. At the back Aidan was off sick. Parts were also played by Tom, Harry B, James and Alex who again worked hard. Harry T in Goal was brave and stopped everything that came his way.
After the break and straight from the kick off 2 goals put the lads on the back foot. We had chance to score with Shayne, Granty, Alex and AJ having efforts saved. Another goal saw the team's heads drop a bit and AG started to pull away.
At the whistle it was 0-6but there were lots of positives to take from the game. We just need to play every minute like the first half and the results will soon start to turn our way.
Well played Lads, fantastic effort again..
James and Adrian
MMoM: GRANTY (Fine tackling)
1/11 (A) Olton Ravens Youth 11-0
A valiant effort by the team. The boys created many fine chances and had some good attempts on goal particularly when Oliver’s shot just went over the cross bar. Alvechurch ran their hearts out in the first half and the score was level until just before half time but then Olton Ravens capitalised on their chances and the score was 3 0 at the interval. Despite another valiant effort by Alvechurch in the second half and a sterling performance by Harry T in goal, later equalled by Granty, they were unable to hold back the opposition. Aidan, and Jack played well in defence and Harry B, Shane and Tom played well in midfield. The Man of the Match for Alvechurch was AJ. The final score of 11-0 does not accurately represent the effort and hard work of the Alvechurch players. Well done guys.
Thanks Lads James and Adrian
Thanks to Steve for the match report
18/10 - (H) Hampton Sports
A great performance from the team and the result looked harsh. After a couple of weeks of double score losses you could have forgiven the lads for dropping their heads. But the Lions showed their heart and but for a crazy 5 minutes just before half time could have come away from the game with a point. Oliver had some fine efforts in the first half with Jack, Tom and Granty running their legs off in midfield. Aidan and AJ worked well at the back, looking strong. Harry T in goal played well with some fine saves. Despite this though it was still 0-4 at half time.
The second half started and again the lads looked good -they have started to play as a team and are working hard for each other. This hard work was finally rewarded; a corner was whipped in and saved.. by the defender.. PENALTY!! Granty picked the ball up and slotted confidently home. The first goal of the season.. Harry B, James, Alex and Josh all made appearances through the game and got stuck in well. At the whistle it was 1-5 but there were lots of positives to take from the game.
Well played Lads
James and Adrian..
11/10 - (H) Rubery - Open Cup - 0-11
A tough game against Div D opposition some real positives despite the score line well played lads.
04/10 - (A) Hampton Sports - Cup - 10-0
The lads are starting to gel but another defeat. Only a cup game though. Well played guys.
27/09 - Alvechurch Lions A Vs Greenlands
The tough start to the season continued with the visit of Greenlands. The guys tried extremely hard but couldn't contain the Greenlands forwards.
The game started well and we looked for the first 5 minutes like it would be a close match. The Lions had a break and a shot went narrowly wide. Granty and Oliver across the middle looked good in possession, but Oliver had to come off because he wasn't feeling the best. Aidan at the back and AJ pushing forward looked strong at the back with Alex O and Tom up front. Harry took up his usual position between the sticks.
Harry B came on to replace Oliver. But despite the lad's best efforts we couldn't prevent 3 goals before half time. James and Josh also played well coming off the bench, along with Shayne who ran his boots off. The second half started and Oliver bravely tried again, but couldn't continue.
Again the lads tried hard with Alex, James and Harry B getting stuck into some tackles. Shayne and Tom were running everywhere, and Aidan and AJ bravely fighting in defence. Harry T put in a good performance in goal. Granty was trying to put a run together in midfield but couldn't find the space.
Again Shayne excelled with a fine second half. Greenlands just proved too strong though and 4 second half goals saw the heads, understandably, go down.
0-7 the final score.
There were positives in the performance and lots of points to work on in training!!
Lads keep going and the results will start to come for us.
Man of the Match for effort: Shayne
Special mention to Oliver who despite been up all night with a cold, turned up because "He couldn't let the lads down".
Good effort Lads.
Thanks Guys James and Adrian.. :-)
20/09 - Colron Boys Vs Alvechurch Lions A
9-0 The score line looks worse than deserved. 1-0 at half time was a fine effort..
